The Buddhahood

Multi-instrumental members of The Buddhahood cook up a melting-pot of musical innovation, nuance, and pure groove power.  The band’s original style has been coined “World-ternative”.  Audiences hear reggae, calypso, samba, afro-beat, funk, blues, and rock at every dance-inducing performance.  Alongside the harmonic vocals, the poly-instrumentation includes mega-percussion, a full horn section, steel drum, bass, drums, and guitar.

Experience the dynamic, colorful, vivacious show that attracts audiences as eclectic as the band itself.  Expect surprises, many dancing bodies, perspiration, an elevated heart rate, and creative songs as uplifting spiritually and emotionally as they are physically.

Blurring the imaginary line at the edge of the stage, The Buddhahood becomes one with the audience in unstoppable vibration and elemental harmony.  “We let the music play us,” says bassist Rick Whitney, reminding us that everything is connected.  The Buddhahood regionally tours in support of their 2006 release, “Muddy Roots” and 2007’s double live disc “Toasty,” which is a testament to the late, great founder and Buddhahood Bodhisattva, Tony Cavagnaro. After many rebirths, the band moves on with plans to never stop recording, performing, having fun and spreading their music and energy to as many people possible.

The Buddhahood and Friends Present:  January Thaw Concert – a Tribute to Tony Cavagnaro

Waterstreet Music, Rochester, NY                                                                                                                 Doors open at 8:30PM

Tickets $8 advance; $10 day of show; $2 surcharge for ages 16 – 20 (ticket Master)                                       Show starts at 9:30PM w/ Sleeping Giant and the word of the day

The Buddhahood has worked hard to help with their loss in the year following Tony’s Tragic Death.  Within that time, they have restructured the band in many ways – coming together with original members, adding a new guitarist, experimenting with singing Tony’s songs, adapting with new stage shows, writing more music, and reaching out to other musicians and the community.

The Buddhahood is very thankful for all the support and also for voting them Rochester’s best original band 2 years in a row; but, the Buddhahood also knows that they owe so much to Tony.  Tony not only wrote most of The Buddhahood’s tunes but has influenced each of the members in so many ways, making them better at what they do but also, hopefully, better people because of what they had to do after his passing.  When Tony points his finger at you, there is no mistake.  Many of us know that.

So, since his birthday is in January (Jan 21), as the January thaws, We will get back to our roots.  This concert will start out with our great friends – Sleeping Giant at 9:30PM.  After that The Buddhahood, along with many guest musicians/singers will perform songs written By Tony Cavagnaro in their own interpretation.  As always, surprises will be had and we hope to have one grand birthday party!
